Inclusivity: Disability Resources

Norwich University of the Arts Library aims to be as inclusive as possible in its service and collections. Disabled students and staff in Higher Education can sometimes feel less visible and acknowledged in terms of the difficulties they face both in their research and everyday life.

Disability Inclusivity within the library

We have created a set of resources that include:

  • Items from our library collection exploring disabilities
  • Signposting to departments within the university (Student Support & Students’ Union).
  • Signposting to organisations outside that may be able to offer practical help
  • Links to articles and podcasts about disability experiences and issues

We aim to provide a friendly environment and safe space for all students.

In order to allow all students to use the library to the fullest, we do not charge fines. And, as we want to have a collection that reflects our students’ interests and backgrounds, we are keen to take resource requests and suggestions

The intention is that these combined resources develop in a collaborative way with our library community: your ideas are important and your engagement is key.

‘Only by promoting the active engagement of people with disabilities in all democratic processes, can we move towards a more inclusive world. We are the best writers of our own stories; we can use our lived experiences to provide long-term solutions to issues affecting our community.’ Maria Alexandrova (Youth Disability Advocate based in Bulgaria – from the UNICEF Blog
