  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Norwich University of the Arts is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is regularly scanned for ease of accessibility. From these scans, have a minimum expectation of achieving at least 95% compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. It is currently partially compliant due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The website uses a lot of mages, i.e. book covers, that rely on the text surrounding them for context. This doesn’t meet Success Criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content). We are currently updating missing alternative texts from our pages. New pages are created with the expectation that any image used should have alternative text or explain that it is purely decorative.

Disproportionate burden

Some of our content which includes the use of Google Maps is not accessible due to incomplete markup. This content doesn’t meet the following WCAG 2.2 success criterion:

  • 1.1.1 Non-text Content
  • 1.3.1 Info and Relationships
  • 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions
  • 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value

We will continually reassess this third-party content periodically to see if we can improve this. If you are unable to view this content, please let us know what information you require and we will try to provide this information in an alternative format.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Our older PDF’s and other downloadable documents don’t meet accessibility standards. For example, they may not be marked up so they are accessible to a screen reader. This means they don’t meet the WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value). PDF’s and other documents published after 23rd September 2018 and any new PDF’s that have been created have been made accessible in line with the accessibility standards.

Video captions

Some of our videos don’t have captions or transcripts. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.2.1 (audio-only and video-only pre-recorded), 1.2.2 (captions pre-recorded), 1.2.3 (audio description or media alternative pre-recorded) and 1.2.5 (audio description pre-recorded). The regulations do not apply to recorded videos published before 23 September 2020. Any new videos published after this date will contain captions or transcripts in line with the accessibility standards.
