Sustainability in the Library

Library Resources on Sustainability

We buy resources that address the subject of sustainability to help with your studies and your creative practice.

We also work closely with the wider Norwich University of the Arts Sustainability group to help the move towards an ecologically sound institution. More information on what Norwich University of the Arts is doing to promote sustainability can be found on our webpages (this link opens in a new window).

If you would like to be involved in supporting sustainability at Norwich you can join the Sustainablity group. More information can be found on the VLE (this link opens in a new window).

How is the Library being sustainable?

One of the university’s aims is to create new possibilities for a more equal and sustainable future.

As well as buying resources that promote sustainability, the Library team are also making changes behind the scenes.
We are currently:

  • Reducing the number of Library leaflets we produce – now all the key information is on a small postcard, linking to lots more information on our website.
  • Reducing energy consumption – we’re using natural daylight when possible so that lights can be turned off as appropriate.
  • Monitoring all our paper print-outs and keeping these to a minimum.
  • Printing all office paperwork on recycled paper.
  • Buying eco-friendly stationery – such as non-plastic covered notebooks and cardboard pens. Plus we’re using the University Shop to buy small stationery items, helping to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Investigating eco-friendly plastic coverings on our books. At the moment our suppliers don’t offer these, but we’re monitoring this and talking to suppliers.
  • Collecting your old pens, these are recycled via the University Shop.
  • Adding plants to our offices (grown for free from cuttings!) plus around the library. We are always adding more plants to the library. You are welcome to take cuttings.
  • Promoting other libraries in the local area. You can find a list here.
  • Last but not least – we’re listening to your ideas! If you have any good ideas for how we can be more sustainable in the Library, or for resources we could get, please let us know – either by chatting to us when you visit or by dropping an email to: library@norwichuni.ac.uk
