Finding material and searching the shelves

The library has loads of resources for you to use. To find them you will need to use the library catalogue (known as Discovery). This 45 second video will show you how to perform a basic search.

Once you’ve found your books on the catalogue, you’ll need to find them on the shelves. This quick video will help you understand the classmarks and how to use them to find a book in the library.

Beyond the shelves

We also have online databases & journals you can access with resources for all subjects taught at the uni. These include a searchable archive of over 2 million TV and radio broadcasts, access to BFI Films, statistics, images, OS maps and more.

To get you started we have compiled a playlist from Box of Broadcasts of the documentary series What Do Artists Do All Day? (opens in a new window) This series covers all forms of artists from painters to dancers to film makers.

These resources have both up to date publications on current thinking and movements alongside historical material to give you a snapshot of contemporary trends.

Below your reading lists you will find a selection of our databases and journals. If you want to explore further, click View More Resources to see our full selection.

Study skills books

Alongside your course books, we also have materials to help you get on top of your studies.

You can find more books by searching study skills on the catalogue. The university also offers in person and online study skills support from our study skills tutors. Find out how they can help you on their pages.
